A team of young experts in the General Department of Criminal Evidence and Criminology in Dubai Police has devised a new formula of solutions that can dismantle the male genetic fingerprint of a single offspring, and represents a leap in this field, with its ability to distinguish the owner of the fingerprint, whether it is the grandfather, father, grandson or Any of the immediate relatives, which was very difficult before.

The members of the team, consisting of Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Rashid Hamdan Al Ghafri, First Lieutenant Abdullah Muhammad Al Bastaki, Staff Sergeant Muhammad Naji Al Yafei, First Technician Ahmed Abdullah Adan, expert Reem Matar Al Muhairi, expert Reem Ahmed Lootah, expert Hanan Ahmed Al Mulla, expert Iman Obaid Al Marri, and an expert Afra Sami Al-Riyami, that the new fingerprint reached by the team represents an innovation that is the first of its kind to be developed by a police forensic laboratory, and contributes to solving the mystery of sexual assault crimes, if the suspect is a family member, and also helps in cases of proving parentage, and identification To the victims who are difficult to distinguish between them.

They told "Emirates Today", on the sidelines of the Global Police Summit, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Dubai Exhibition Center at Expo 2020 Dubai, that the product was developed with A leading Chinese company, and it became available on the global market, after registering a patent, to transform the forensic laboratory from a consumer of corporate products, to a manufacturer and supplier of scientific products.

In detail, one of the project team members, Lieutenant Biologist and DNA expert, Abdullah Al Bastaki, said that the formula obtained a patent from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), after it was published in scientific journals, because of its important value in forensic science, It disintegrates the matching in the genetic fingerprint between the males of the same family.

He explained that the male DNA fingerprint is of important value in forensic sciences, but on the other hand, it represents a major challenge because it is difficult to distinguish its owner if the suspect, or the person to be identified, is a member of a family that includes a number of direct related relatives.

He pointed out that the work team began studying this challenge, and worked to find solutions to it, and worked to distinguish 26 genetic sites that rapidly pivot and change within the inherited male footprint, and then cooperated with the Chinese company Micro Red, to manufacture a mixture of solutions that provide a rapid test for the fingerprint, which can differentiate between Imprint holders through mutated genetic loci.

He explained that the male fingerprint is usually used in crimes of sexual assault, since female samples usually dominate their male counterparts, and the examiner has no choice but to extract the fingerprint to identify the suspect, and then another problem arises after reaching it, which is to distinguish its owner from members of the same family, in The almost complete match between the inherited male footprint remained, but thanks to this product, this matter is now easy, whether in cases of sexual assault or proving parentage, or in the case of the need to identify victims of disasters and accidents, unidentified, as it can be ascertained whether the deceased was the father Or a son or any of the immediate relatives.

The expert, Muhammad Naji Muhammad, said that the work team began its research about six months ago, after observing the difficulties and challenges in cases that required distinguishing the owner of the male fingerprint, given the identical genes inherited from the father to the son to the grandson.

He added, "We took it upon ourselves to search for different genetic mutations, and actually reached 26 mutations, and collected them in a chemical solution, and we were not satisfied with that, but we made comparisons between different peoples, until the innovation became global, and then we obtained a patent from the World Intellectual Property Organization in the name of Dubai Police".

The expert, Afra Al-Riyami, said that the work team includes eight young experts, from different departments in the General Department of Criminal Evidence, and was able, after great effort, to reach this first-of-its-kind formula, pointing out that “the laboratory usually buys this type of solution from companies and institutions.” However, by virtue of our field work on the issues, we realized the need to develop a formula that helps distinguish between the genes of males of the same family.”

She added that the work team applied the formula to previous cases, and the results were wonderful by all standards. Instead of accusing the males of an entire family, it is now possible to distinguish the owner of the male fingerprint, stressing the importance of this innovation in light of the marriage of relatives, and the transmission of the fingerprint from one generation to another.

• The new footprint narrows the cases of suspected sexual assault cases and the proof of parentage.

A scientific team in Dubai Police

The Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Lieutenant-General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marri, said that reaching accurate solutions in the field of male DNA, targeting 26 fast-spinning genetic sites, with an accuracy of 99%, is a scientific achievement, the first of its kind in the world, achieved by the scientific team in the Public Administration For forensic evidence and criminology, which contributes to the detection of criminal cases, especially sexual cases, stressing the keenness of the Dubai Police General Command to keep pace with the government's directions, by applying the highest standards of excellence and leadership in various security and police fields.

He stressed that Dubai Police spares no effort in developing human cadres and supporting them with the best competencies, through a rehabilitation policy that goes according to a scientific methodology that raises the level of performance and efficiency, stressing the need to consolidate the knowledge and scientific theories that the graduate acquires from his studies in practice, and to constantly develop and update work through studies Scientific research and support it with practical applications.
