According to new intelligence from the British Ministry of Defense, the conquests of the Russian forces in Ukraine have almost completely stopped.

Magnus Christiansson, senior lecturer in military science at the Swedish National Defense College, shares that picture.

- It's because it's a badly managed invasion.

It is an ill-considered war with an operational plan based on unsustainable assumptions that has led to a tactical chaos.

Now, after a few weeks, the Russian forces need to recover and that is what we are seeing now, a break in the war, he says.

"Unclear how strong the opposition is"

According to the British, continued strong Ukrainian resistance is said to be an important reason why the Russian offensive has stagnated.

- At the same time, we do not know how things have gone for the Ukrainians.

What we do know is that they have resisted and few thought they could do it.

But we do not know what their status is right now.

Ukraine itself claims that it has carried out a full mobilization, which would mean that the defense consists of about 200,000 soldiers.

The British Ministry of Defense emphasizes that it is likely that Russia has had to use more weapons than planned as a result of the invasion lasting so long.

"Stupid bombs part of warfare"

"As a result, Russia is likely to adopt older, less accurate weapons, which are less militarily effective and more likely to result in civilian casualties," the ministry wrote in a Twitter post.

Christiansson is not sure that the use of less precise weapons is due to scarce resources, but rather is part of the warfare.

- If you look at how the Russian air force operated in Syria, they used almost only so-called stupid bombs, those that are not guided.

They have quite poor precision, but if the purpose is to attack the civilian population, the precision is less important, he says.
