The Ministry of National Defense building in Yongsan, Seoul is being considered as the location for the new government's office to be established in two months.

It is considered an advantage to be able to use the security facilities within the Ministry of National Defense as it is.

It was confirmed that the Seoul Government Complex, which was first mentioned, was excluded from the review due to problems with its size and security.

From the first day of his inauguration, President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol pledged to start work in Gwanghwamun rather than the Blue House.

[Yoon Seok-yeol/President-elect (last January): The new presidential office will be built in Gwanghwamun Government Complex Seoul.

The existing Blue House site will be returned to the people.]

The Gwanghwamun Government Complex Seoul, where the Prime Minister's Office is located, was first mentioned as the relocated site, but it was confirmed that it was excluded from the review.

Because of the size of the government building, more than half of the space has to be shared with other ministries, and this is the reason why security problems may arise.

As an alternative, the Ministry of National Defense in Yongsan is being considered as a viable option.

When moving to the Ministry of National Defense, it is known that the presidential residence will use the Foreign Minister's Office in Hannam-dong, considering the movement, and it is about a 10-minute drive to the office.

A key official on the elected side explained that if the building is relocated to the Ministry of National Defense, the underground bunker and heliport inside the building can be used as it is, so it has the advantage of returning 100% of the current Blue House site to the public.

At the same time, the entire Gwanghwamun Ministry of Foreign Affairs building can be used as the presidential office, which is being considered as another alternative.

In this case, the presidential residence is likely to be the Prime Minister's Office in Samcheong-dong, which is about a 5-minute drive away.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs rents and relocates private buildings, and the underground bunker and heliport are currently using the Blue House facilities.

The elected party is expected to confirm the relocation location as early as this week, considering the time required for office relocation and building renovation.
