  • Government Pedro Sánchez promises a tax reduction and more defense spending without specifying

The state co-spokesperson for Podemos, Pablo Fernández, has affirmed that there are "more pressing" priorities than increasing defense spending, as the chief executive, Pedro Sánchez, announced yesterday, but has avoided describing the measure as a mistake.

In statements to TVE, collected by Europa Press, Fernández has stressed that for his training the "most urgent" thing is to shield public services, to give "certainties" to citizens in these moments of "uncertainty", and consequently sees "secondary " raise defense spending to 2% of GDP to comply with NATO's request.

However, and asked if it is a mistake to raise the defense budget as Sánchez advanced, Fernández has limited himself to saying that for Podemos it is not a priority at the moment, as it is to deploy social and tax measures that protect citizens in this crisis, caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

lower taxes

In this way, Fernández has also asserted that the purple formation is in favor of lowering taxes on the working class, but claims to raise it for electricity companies and large companies, since they must be "solidarity" in this context and "put their shoulders ".

For this reason, the leader of Podemos has said that it is "vital" that citizens do not support the effects of the crisis, for which they have been "very clear" in proposing a new social shield, "end" the "obscene" benefits dropped from the sky of electricity companies, decouple gas from the energy pricing system after the "go-ahead" of the EU to this measure and deploy a check of 300 euros to families to help them pay the electricity bill and the gas.

In this sense, he has proclaimed that the confederal space poses as "inevitable" all these protection measures, which are "complete common sense."

And in this regard he has trusted that the PSOE, his coalition government partner, "can accept it" so that they are carried out as soon as possible.

social shield

Specifically, Fernández has stressed that these measures, as well as raising the amount of the Minimum Vital Income by 18% or a universal income for raising 100 euros, are going to be proposed by United We Can within the Government.

"We will take it to the Council of Ministers," he emphasized.

Regarding the alliance of PP and Vox in Castilla y León, Fernández has reproached the future popular leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, that his first measure is to introduce the "extreme right" in a regional Executive.

"Feijóo is to moderation what Vox is to feminism," he added.
