Minister of Civil Affairs Ida Karkiainen (S) visited her home municipality of Haparanda on Monday to help start the national vaccination week.

And Haparanda in particular has the lowest vaccination coverage in the whole of Norrbotten.

"The pandemic remains"

- I do not really know why this is so, but he can do it linguistically.

Many are Finnish-speaking in the municipality, but there may be other explanations as well.

We will have to study that in the future, says Ida Karkiainen, who believes that the biggest problem in general is that many have relaxed after most covid restrictions have been removed.

- It is easy to think and conclude that it is not as necessary to get vaccinated now that the restrictions have eased, but the pandemic remains and many, especially those who have not been vaccinated, still become very ill.

The seed vaccination week is good, she says.

"The climax has been reached"

According to the region's chief physician Moa Bjerner, the spread of infection in Norrbotten is still high.

- But we seem to have reached the peak during weeks seven and eight and the spread of infection is declining, thank goodness, but it has been full for healthcare and even there we see a declining trend and we are very happy about that.

- Now we will make it easier to get vaccinated, because it is very important that you complete your vaccination, says Moa Bjerner.
