The Coordination of the Resistance Committees in Khartoum announced that the "million detainees", which will be launched today, Monday, will go to the presidential palace to demand civilian rule and the release of detainees.

The resistance committees called - in a statement - on all the forces of the revolution against the "coup" of last October 25 to actively participate in the millions of people today, Monday, "holding the weapon of our peace, in order to establish a pure civil authority."

The statement also called for the continuation of "the revolution's journey, in solidarity with the unlawful detainees in prisons, and the release of the millions of detainees heading towards the presidential palace."

And yesterday, Sunday, dozens of demonstrators took to the streets in a number of neighborhoods in the three cities of the capital, Khartoum, Khartoum North, and Omdurman (west of the capital) to demand civilian rule and the release of detainees.

Opposition forces and human rights organizations accuse the Sudanese authorities of arresting political leaders and dozens of activists in the "resistance committees".

On the other hand, the head of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, said on February 17, that "the communications against some people were made by the judicial authorities," stressing the independence of these authorities.

Since last October 25, Sudan has witnessed protests in response to exceptional measures taken by the army chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, most notably the imposition of a state of emergency and the dissolution of the Sovereignty Councils and the Transitional Ministers, which political forces consider a "military coup" in exchange for the army's denial.

Those who reject Al-Burhan's procedures say that it represents a coup against a transitional phase that began on August 21, 2019, and is supposed to end with elections in early 2024, and that the army, civil forces and armed movements signed a peace agreement in 2020, share power during this transitional phase. While the proof denies the occurrence of a military coup.
