Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani held talks in Moscow with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on the Ukrainian crisis, and the need to find a diplomatic solution and ensure the safety of civilians was discussed.

The Qatari foreign minister called for peaceful solutions to the Ukrainian crisis as soon as possible.

For his part, Lavrov stressed the importance of the timing of the Russian-Qatari talks on bilateral relations and international issues.

At a press conference after the talks, Lavrov said that his country appreciates the interest of the State of Qatar on the situation in Ukraine, and thanks it for its efforts to help solve the crisis.

He added that during the talks with his Qatari counterpart, he discussed the current situation, including the humanitarian corridors in the city of Mariupol.

Lavrov stressed that there should be no racism or threat to Russian culture and language in Ukraine.

Concerted efforts

In the same context, the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Qatar will spare no effort to reach a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

"We see the need to urgently combine international efforts to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis, with the need for the safety of civilians, considering this a top priority for everyone," Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said.

He added, "The State of Qatar will spare no effort in providing everything that would expedite and support a peaceful solution to this crisis through consultation and work with our international partners."

He added, "We in Qatar have always believed in diplomatic solutions and the preservation of the international order based on respect for the Charter of the United Nations and the well-established principles of international law, including obligations under the Charter to settle disputes by peaceful means, refrain from the threat or use of force, and adhere to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states. We reject and condemn all What goes against that."

The Qatari Foreign Minister also affirmed Qatar's position on the necessity of avoiding escalation in Ukraine and resolving the crisis through diplomatic means.
