Val-de-Marne is one of the six French departments in which the police department has been testing a new device since October 19, 2021. The objective is to deter squatters by hitting them directly in the wallet via a ticket system for occupation building lobby illegal.
425 fines were drawn up in the department.
This is the highest figure in the country, says
Le Parisien
.
The amount to be paid is 200 euros.
The offense is characterized when at least two adult squatters cause by their presence a hindrance to traffic in a building.
The other departments concerned are Ille-et-Vilaine, Ariège, Nord, Bouches-du-Rhône and Marne.
Custody and increased fine
The device was extended to all of France on January 14.
In the event of refusal to pay, the persons concerned may be subject to police custody and a penal order, doubling or tripling the fine.
Satisfied with this device which aims to repress an offense hitherto little judicialized, the authorities plan to extend it to shoplifting.
