Following last year's anger by using spoiled materials, another controversy over hygiene arose.

According to local Chinese media on the 14th, Mr. A, who ordered a drink at a Starbucks store in China on the 10th, was startled after receiving the manufactured drink.

Because live cockroaches were swimming in the drink in the disposable transparent cup.

Tilt the cup slightly to reveal its long antennae and legs.

Person A filmed the scene in question and uploaded it to Weibo, the 'Chinese version of Twitter', saying, "At first I thought he was dead, but when I took a picture to contact customer service, I found out that he was still alive."

This post spread rapidly among Chinese netizens, and was ranked No. 1 on Weibo Hot Issues.

As the controversy grew, Starbucks China issued a statement on the 12th, saying, "As a result of analyzing the surveillance video of the store, the store employees made the drink according to a strict procedure and used the undiluted solution."

"We used leak-proof packaging specially designed for takeout, called an insect repellent company to conduct on-site inspections, and thoroughly inspected related equipment, but there were no problems."

However, this isn't the first time Starbucks China's hygiene controversy has arisen.

Earlier, in December of last year, it was discovered that two Starbucks stores in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China used expired milk and fresh cream and sold out-of-date desserts as if they were new.

At that time, a Chinese reporter who worked undercover at the store secretly filmed and exposed unsanitary conditions, such as wiping the coffee machine with a cloth that wiped the trash can.

A Chinese reporter who reported the report said that it was not a simple mistake by an employee, but an implicit instruction from managers, including the store manager, that it happened systematically.

Due to Starbucks China's vague explanation and repeated hygiene controversy regarding the 'cockroach drink' incident, Chinese people's anger does not seem to subside.
