White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Chinese Communist Party Politburo Yang Jiechi met in Rome, Italy, to discuss the North Korean issue, the U.S. said.

A senior U.S. official said: "Aide Sullivan has made clarification with both Politburo members concerned about North Korea's recent escalation of tensions and the steps it hopes China will engage in."

The official said that U.S. Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim and China's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs, Liu Shaoming, will further discuss concrete measures to put pressure on North Korea.
