Russia orders military equipment from China after invading Ukraine

Russia has requested military equipment from China since it invaded Ukraine on February 24, the Financial Times and The Washington Post reported on Sunday, citing US officials.

The White House said earlier that US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will visit Rome on Monday to meet with China's top diplomat, Yang Jiechi.

Russia and China have stepped up cooperation as they come under strong Western pressure on human rights and a host of other issues.

Beijing has neither condemned the Russian attack nor called it an invasion, but it has urged a negotiated solution to the crisis.

Russia describes its work in Ukraine as a "special operation".

The White House National Security Council declined to comment.

The Washington Post said the unidentified US officials did not say what kind of weapons Russia had requested or how China had responded.
