The Grand Mufti of Ukraine took off his turban and religious uniform and put on military clothing in the latest photo he posted on his Facebook page.
Saeed Ismayilov appeared in the photo, in the middle of a group of Ukrainian People's Defense Forces in Kyiv, where he said he joined them on February 24, the same day Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
Since the start of the invasion, Ismailov has devoted his work to helping the Ukrainians in facing the war against the Russians, for example, by launching a donation campaign to buy military helmets and military clothing for local fighters, according to Al-Marsad newspaper.
Ismailov, who is of Tatar ethnicity and was born in the eastern city of Donetsk, also published pictures and video clips showing the extent of the destruction in mosques located in the Donetsk region as a result of the Russian bombing and the city of Mariupol.
"The Russian monsters are now destroying the mosque of Sultan Suleiman and his wife Roxolana in Mariupol, while there are about 80 people with their children in the basement of the mosque," Ismailov said in a post on his Facebook page.
Ismailov described the mosque as "one of the most beautiful mosques in Ukraine".
