The Sabertooth submarines are manufactured in Linköping and Ellie was used in all dives made in the 300 square meter seabed area that was searched.

Two underwater search specialists from Saab - Thomas Andreasson and Lars Lundberg - have participated in the expedition and are on board the polar research vessel SA Agulhas II, which is now leaving Antarctica.

Over the years, more expeditions have tried to find the Endurance wreck without success.

How did it feel when you found the wreck?

- It was a euphoric feeling, they say to SVT Nyheter Öst on a cracked telephone connection from the other side of the world.

Ellie delivered data in real time

Sabretooth Ellie is controlled wirelessly, but in this case data was streamed via a thin cable in real time to Thomas and Lars on board the ship.

Sometimes there were ten kilometers of cable in the water.

- It allowed us to work more efficiently.

We could have let her go without the cable, but then we would have had to pick her up, refuel the data and analyze it afterwards.

Now we could do everything at once.

The data, images and videos now collected with the help of Sabertooth Ellie will make it possible to produce a 3D model of the wreck and provide material for an upcoming documentary made on behalf of National Geographic.

Hear Lars and Thomas tell more in the video above.
