Several explosions occurred in Lutsk in western Ukraine during the night towards Friday and early morning.

One of them happened at an airfield and another explosion occurred at a factory that repairs jet engines, reports the BBC.

The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk in southwestern Ukraine confirms in a post on Facebook that the city has been shelled and urges residents to seek protection.

Great concern in Lviv

SVT's Samir Abu Eid is on site in Lviv, just over 150 km from Lutsk in western Ukraine.

The fact that attacks are now taking place further west can be seen as an escalation of the invasion.

There is also concern about attacks in Lviv, he says.

- There may be an idea that Russian forces should try to close the border to the west, between Ukraine and Poland, so that weapons and volunteers can not enter, says Samir Abu Eid.

Dnipro in central parts of the country has also been spared from attacks.

There have been several attacks during the night towards Friday.

The explosions there are said to have taken place near a preschool, an apartment building and at a shoe factory.

- The war is being extended to cities and regions where there has been no violence until today, says SVT's foreign reporter Lars Moberg in SVT's live broadcast.

"War expands"

The UN's latest estimate on Friday shows that more than 2.5 million people have fled the country since the beginning of the war.

The majority of those fleeing take the roads west and south, to neighboring countries such as Poland, Moldova and Slovakia.

The Swedish Migration Agency has developed three scenarios where a minimum of 27,000 people and a maximum of 212,000 people in need of protection are expected by the end of June.

If the fighting moves west, the number will probably be higher, says Mikael Ribbenvik, Director General of the Swedish Migration Board.

- That scenario involves a prolonged and increased brutality in the conflict and that it moves west.

Unfortunately, that is what we are seeing right now, says Ribbenvik at a press conference on Friday.
