Russian forces have greater military power in southern and eastern Ukraine, but around the capital Kyiv they have had bigger problems.

The goal of surrounding Kyiv probably remains, according to former lieutenant colonel Jörgen Elfving.

At the same time, he confirms the credibility of Russian infiltrators inside Kyiv.

- There is talk of Russian and Chechen special forces that have been inside Kyiv and probably also personnel who belong to what is called the "Wagner group".

Probably they had the task of getting hold of the Ukrainian president.

Addition of weapons

At the same time, the Ukrainian forces have weapons that can knock out tanks, according to Jörgen Elfving.

- They have received a fairly large addition of anti-tank robots from the US and the UK, he says.

In addition, there are anti-tank weapons from Germany, Sweden and other countries.

They can be used to attack lighter combat vehicles and unarmored vehicles.

- But on the other hand, it is doubtful what effect they have on tanks, says Jörgen Elfving.

"The eyes of Odessa"

He believes that the encirclement of the larger cities will continue, with shelling of civilian targets to break the will to resist.

He also points to the importance of what is happening in the southern parts of Ukraine.

- It is possible that they invest in establishing a land connection to the breakaway republic of Transnistria and then Odessa will be an interesting point to keep an eye on.
