Return of the marches for the climate in France from this Saturday, March 12.

The motto: "

Look up

" (look up) is a reference to the film "

Don't look up

" by Adam McKay which tackles climate denial.

The message is addressed in particular to political leaders, because we must act quickly to limit global warming.

But on the eve of the first round of the French presidential election, this theme is one of the major absentees from this campaign.

Among the candidates for the presidential elections, some take the climate issue more seriously than others: there are those who talk about it and those who do not talk about it, analyzes

Anthony Lattier

, of the political service.

First of all, there are the good students, in the forefront of which obviously the ecologist

Yannick Jadot,

whose entire program revolves around the fight against global warming and the need to reduce France's carbon footprint by 55% by 2030.

Slowing down

" climate change is also what the rebel

Jean-Luc Mélenchon advocates.

To do this, he relies on “

ecological planning

 ”.

It is up to the State and not to the market to implement the transition.

Far-right climate change skepticism

For other candidates, climate change is an economic opportunity.

The representative of the Republicans,

Valérie Pécresse

, wants to invest in research in order to "

recreate added value

 " and "

win the race against climate change

 ".

For his part,

Emmanuel Macron

has not yet unveiled his program, but for him it is technological progress that will make it possible to meet the climate challenge.

These two candidates want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but economic growth remains the priority for them.

For other candidates, ecology is not really a concern, this is the case on the far right.

Marine Le Pen is beginning to take an interest in it, but the words climate, ecology, biodiversity or environment do not appear in her 22 measures for 2022. As for Eric Zemmour, he wonders about the reality of climate change while considering that we must “

reinvent a right-wing, rooted ecology

 ”.

For him, ecology has been “

taken hostage by the far left

 ”.

Common priority of these two candidates: the dismantling of wind turbines, which provide renewable energy.
