The Presidential Campaign Control Commission on Wednesday forced Emmanuel Macron to delete messages relating to his presidential campaign posted on his official accounts as head of state on social networks.

Emmanuel Macron was forced on Friday to delete messages relating to his presidential campaign posted on his official accounts as head of state on social networks, after "observations" to this effect from the Campaign Control Commission, announced the candidate's team on Friday.

The "Letter to the French" deleted

Among the two deleted publications is his "Letter to the French" which formalized his candidacy and had therefore been posted on his official Twitter account @EmmanuelMacron (7.9 million subscribers).

The National Commission for the Control of the Electoral Campaign for the Presidential Election (CNCCEP) "noted in particular that such a message was related to electoral propaganda and that, given the characteristics of the use of this Twitter account, used for a long time and in a preponderant way to relay messages relating to the exercise of his functions as President of the Republic, it was preferable not to use this account to disseminate such messages there", indicated the CNCCEP in a press release. .

The CNCCEP says in particular to rely on a "opinion of February 28" which defines the "rules applicable to communication on social networks".

She also claims to have warned in a "message of March 7", that is to say Monday, the "agent" of the Macron campaign of his remarks in non-compliance.

The policy applied to all social networks

For the past few days, according to a source within Emmanuel Macron's campaign, requests for clarifications and comments have been sent to the CNCCEP, until a decision is finally made, for lack of obtaining them, to " adapt the device: the only account that we will use is @avecvous", created on the occasion of the presidential election.

In addition to the publications, the profile photograph as well as the few words of biography of the @EmmanuelMacron account were also modified on Friday morning and the piloting returned to the Elysée.

If the CNCCEP only mentions the presidential Twitter account in its letter, Emmanuel Macron's entourage has indicated that it will apply the same practices to other social networks.

The observations of the CNCCEP also open a field of questions concerning the accounts of the candidate LR Valérie Pécresse (444,000 subscribers on Twitter), also president of the Ile-de-France region, or even of the socialist Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris ( 1.5 million subscribers).
