  • Politics The European PP charges against the pact in Castilla y León with Vox after listening to Pablo Casado

Alfonso Fernández Mañueco does not understand Pablo Casado's criticism of the PP government agreement with Vox.

The acting president of Castilla y León has assured that the national leadership of the PP supported him to negotiate the investiture when Casado was still leading the party at full capacity.

And that he has limited himself to acting according to that directive from Casado himself.

Mañueco has reminded the still president of the PP that it was his National Executive Committee that gave him a free hand to be able to reach an agreement with Vox or with any other formation, "two days after the elections."

At that meeting, Casado said that he gave the Castilian-Leon PP the "support of the national leadership to continue negotiating and maintain a government that he himself described as successful," according to Mañueco.

"Well, that", what Casado proposed, "is what we have done", Mañueco has defended.

"Negotiate" with the PSOE first and with Vox later, Mañueco has detailed.

Asked about the criticism of the president of the European PP, Donald Tusk, towards the pact with Vox, Mañueco assured: "I am surprised, and I am available to Donald Tusk and any member of the European People's Party" to explain that the agreement signed in Castilla y León "perfectly fits the principles of the EPP".

Regarding the commitment reached with Vox for the approval of a law against domestic violence, Mañueco has assured that it is about "raising protection" for other victims, but without touching a comma of the Law against gender violence.

"It will be complementary."

"Castilla y León has a law against gender violence that has been in force for more than a decade and also has a plan against domestic violence that was approved in February 2019, before the regional elections" in May of that year.

"The validity of that plan expires in a few months and the bet is to turn that plan into law," he detailed.

Thus, PP and Vox want to give "a greater projection against mistreatment of the elderly and people with disabilities or children."

"The law against gender violence does not change anything, which will continue to exist," insisted the regional 'popular' leader.

Mañueco has assured that he is always with all the victims, "whether due to terrorism or gender violence or race or another type", and that the PP's commitment against sexist violence "is crystal clear" and is not going to change for governing with Vox.
