ARD and ZDF want to report from their studios in Moscow again soon.

However, there will be no reports from there about the military situation in Ukraine for the time being.

This was announced by the broadcasting families on Friday in Cologne.

Reporting was temporarily suspended over the weekend.

ARD and ZDF had reacted to a change in the law that the Russian parliament had previously passed.

According to the new law, spreading alleged false information about the Russian armed forces can be punished with heavy fines and up to 15 years in prison.

"On the basis of the review, ARD and ZDF, also in consultation with partners in the EBU, decided to resume reporting from the studios in Moscow on the political, economic and social situation in Russia, but to resume reporting on the military situation in Ukraine from other locations of the two public broadcasters.” The abbreviation EBU stands for the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva, which coordinates the cooperation between European broadcasters.

"The Moscow correspondents of ARD and ZDF will report on the decisions of the Russian leadership, but also on civil society reactions, for example protests against the war, the reactions of the Russian elites or the concrete effects of the sanctions on the everyday life of Russian citizens," said it further.

“The special conditions of reporting from Russia are made transparent.

ARD and ZDF reserve the right to reassess the situation at any time.”
