At the microphone of Europe 1, epidemiologist Philippe Amouyel wants to be reassuring.

Three days before the lifting of the vaccination pass and the end of the indoor mask, the number of Covid-19 contaminations started to rise again: +20% in one week.

But is this enough to fear new restrictions?

No, according to the epidemiologist and professor of public health at the Lille University Hospital, Philippe Amouyel.

“We see what we had already observed for a few days, a slowdown in the drop in the number of contaminations which tends to go up”, he explains at the microphone of Europe 1.

Getting used to living with the virus

A contamination rate which could be explained by "the arrival of the BA.2 variant on our territory. It is starting to gain momentum, but it has not led to a massive resumption of the epidemic in other countries. justifying an end to the release of barrier measures", reassures the specialist.

“At one point or another, we will have to think about starting to get used to living with a virus that will go into endemic mode. We can suffer like this regularly throughout the year, and more particularly during the winter months, a small epidemic resumption which will require better monitoring, but not necessarily an increase in barrier measures.
