Ibai Aginaga Guinea

will receive a

public welcome next Sunday

, March 13, in Berango (Vizcaya) after serving

20 years in prison and "standing firm against the blackmail carried out by the States and their collaborators"

, according to the groups that organize this

ongi etorri

.

Aginaga is part of the group of prisoners critical of the decision taken by the rest of his colleagues to avoid the

ongi etorris

to facilitate the changes in grade that dozens of ETA members are requesting.

The tribute to Aginaga has been publicized both on social networks and with the distribution of anonymous pamphlets, it is the ones that are encouraged to

"stand up"

and maintain the acts of tribute.

The group of ETA prisoners aligned with Sortu announced

in November 2021

that they had asked their relatives and followers

not to organize any more public tributes

with which they were entertained when they returned to their places of origin after serving prison.

A measured gesture within the fluid

relations between EH Bildu

, the citizen platform in support of

Sare prisoners and the Ministry of the Interior

.

Refusing to receive an

ongi etorri

became, as of this announcement, an argument for opting for prison benefits such as a change from second to third degree or even parole to serve the last years of the sentence.

Barely a month later, ETA member

Ignacio Etxebarria

Mortadelo

was greeted in the streets of Pamplona's Casco Viejo with

flares, flowers and an aurresku of honour

, in an act organized by relatives and groups critical of Sortu's political strategy.

The Abertzale Left distanced itself from this reception without new public tributes having been produced in recent months.

Aginaga's followers consider him a

"fighter all these years"

in the messages distributed to encourage participation in this

ongi etorri

in which the support enjoyed by critics of Arnaldo Otegi's political leadership will also be measured.

The Villacisneros Foundation

has asked the Basque and Central Governments to ban this reception.

"A reception for a terrorist

is an act of glorification

typified as a crime in the Penal Code and in addition the laws of national and regional victims urge the powers of the State to avoid them," says this foundation in which former leaders of the Basque PP participate as

Maria San Gil and Carlos Urquijo

.

Last December, supporters of the nationalist left

launched

firecrackers and lit flares from a bridge near the Basauri prison (Vizcaya) on Christmas Eve as a message of support for ETA member

Ibai Aginaga

, sentenced in 2012 to 21 years in prison as a member of the

Navarroa command

.

Aginaga, a native of Berango (Vizcaya), was transferred to Basauri last August and is one of the prisoners who distanced himself from the EPPK and refuses to accept prison benefits.

Ibai Aguinaga Guinea was

arrested in 2003 when he was 22 years old

for being part of a terrorist commando in Navarra.

In the police operation, the members of the National Police seized

150 kilos of explosives, long weapons and three automatic pistols

from the Aginaga commando .

Since 1997 he had been arrested three times for more than twenty actions of urban terrorism.

In his short but intense criminal history, the one perpetrated on January 5, 1999 stands out, when he participated, along with 30 other hooded individuals, in the launch of 50 "Molotov cocktails" against the Civil Guard barracks in Getxo.

In addition, in his police file, his participation in the placement of a homemade device

in the home of PSOE councilor Julio Eugenio Moro López

appears on April 9, 1999 .

A day later, on April 10, he allegedly places another explosive device in the home of another councilman, this time from the PP, Virgilio Méndez Medrano.
