The sponsorship granted to Éric Zemmour by the mayor of Bry-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne) Charles Aslangul (LR) was rejected by the Constitutional Council on the pretext that it was the result of a consultation on Twitter.

The city councilor became aware of this decision after the publication of the final count of sponsorships.

His name card did not indicate “No element to display”, reports Le Parisien.

Contacted by the elected official on Tuesday, the Constitutional Council recalled that “all sponsorships being the result of chance, by drawing lots or by bargaining” were prohibited.

For the city councilor, his sponsorship of a presidential candidate does not, however, fall into this category.

More than 52,000 voters

Charles Aslangul also considered that his approach is "a personal and voluntary act", as required by the Constitutional Council

.

“Many mayors have made a consultation and their sponsorships have been validated

,

” he also noted.

For two days, 52,000 Internet users participated in the survey.

Éric Zemmour, who had not yet gathered his 500 sponsorships, had won more than 67% of the votes.
