• Established since 2016 in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon, the School of the Second Chance has just inaugurated its new premises in the 7th arrondissement.

  • With nearly 1,400 m2, the new building will be able to accommodate 400 students by the end of 2024, compared to 300 currently.

  • The objective: to offer young people in difficulty and without a diploma a real opportunity for professional integration.

After having settled for five years in the 9th arrondissement of Lyon, the Ecole de la Deuxieme Chance has just inaugurated its new premises in the 7th arrondissement.

With this brand new building of 1,400 square meters, the E2C intends to expand its reception capacity from 300 young people currently to 400 by the end of 2024.

Accompanying young people aged 16 to 25 in difficulty, the school allows them to build a professional project with the help of training, internships and discoveries in companies.

For most of these trainees, without diplomas and often out of school, this is a real opportunity.

Emilie confirms it, she who speaks for the first time in front of more than 200 people: “I appreciate the refresher course and the new knowledge that I have been able to acquire.

This allows young people to find something in the end.

Upgrading is not only professional: "We are certainly aiming for professional integration, but also social and civic integration" explains Jean-Roger Régnier, president of the Rhône Lyon Métropole Second Chance School.

"It taught me above all to gain self-confidence and to know how to talk to bosses", testifies Hugo, a former student of the E2C and now a swimming pool specialist.

Marina, also a former student, confirms that it allowed her to "return to her professional life" and "become more competent".

While they were able to visit the new premises, both underlined the quality of the new infrastructure: "For me, a bigger school means more help and more means", believes the young man.

"It's a good initiative that will allow more people to join," continues Marina.

A local and national mission

“Here, the advantage we have in Lyon is this ability to work together: state services, communities, municipalities, the region, associations, economic players.

We have common objectives”, underlines Bruno Bernard, the president of the Métropole de Lyon.

And to insist: “It is important to be able to reach out to each young person and be able to find a solution for them.

»

Currently, nearly 14,000 young people are job seekers in Lyon.

A significant figure for which all the players in the region are trying to provide solutions: “If the teams are growing, it is because there is a growing need.

We also need to think about the meaning that all this can have, ”confirms Grégory Doucet, mayor of Lyon who has invested one million euros in the project.
