Mia Adrelius has tried to find refugees via the Swedish Migration Board, the municipality and social media - but so far nothing has worked.

"Most people live with relatives and friends"

More than 1.8 million people have fled the war in Ukraine, according to the UNHCR.

To date, just over 3,500 people have applied for protection in Sweden, the majority of the applicants are women and children.

Most live with relatives and friends, according to the Swedish Migration Board.

But for those who do not have that opportunity, the authority offers housing.

- An asylum seeker has the opportunity to live in their own accommodation and this is where volunteers can come in if they want to house Ukrainian refugees.

The Swedish Migration Agency currently has no opportunity to sign agreements or pay benefits to private individuals, which is why we procure accommodation, writes Guna Graufelds at the Swedish Migration Agency's press service in an email to SVT.

No compensation

She also writes that the authority has no opportunity to place families with private individuals.

If you want to open up your home and help, you will not receive any compensation from the Swedish Migration Board, but you will have to bear all the costs yourself.

- From this crisis, something positive can come.

The individualism that has been so great may be able to diminish a little.

We need to teach each other how to take care of each other, says Mia Adrelius.
