During both the preliminary investigation and in the trial, it was clear that the 17-year-old's mother had been seeking help for her son for years, over which she had lost control.

But in vain.

It all ended in a tragedy, when the boy shot dead policeman Andreas Danman in Biskopsgården in Gothenburg.

Karin Pleijel thinks that the report provides a better understanding of what needs to be done in the future.

- Not only in terms of resources but also how to organize oneself to be able to collaborate better around this group of young people who risk ending up really wrong.

High tolerance level

One thing the report points out is that the officials who had contact with the 17-year-old had too high a tolerance level for norm-breaking behavior.

- Yes, you must pay attention to risk behaviors early.

The question is how we can strengthen the staff who meet the young people, so that they feel that they can handle a clear demarcation and can make the right efforts, says Karin Pleijel.

She wants to see a larger and better space for cooperation between the police, social services, schools and leisure activities in order to be able to catch young people who otherwise risk ending up wrong.

Pointing finger

In the report, it is easy to get the impression that all different bodies are pointing fingers at each other.

The police do not think that their information to the social services leads anywhere.

- It will be easy for everyone to blame everyone, even though everyone has done the right thing according to the rule book.

That's exactly what it's about: You have to be able to fill in the blanks.

You have to create space to collaborate and raise the level of knowledge about risk behaviors and how to catch these young people in time, says Karin Pleijel.

She can not be more concrete than that yet:

- We have just received the report.

Now we must consider what we can do so that this can never happen again.

The report gives us the strength to move forward, she says.
