(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Germany has newly diagnosed more than 260,000 for the first time in a single day, experts say that it has entered the sixth wave of the epidemic

China News Service, Berlin, March 10 (Reporter Peng Dawei) The number of newly diagnosed new coronavirus infections announced by the German CDC on the 10th exceeded 260,000 for the first time, a new high for the country's new crown epidemic in more than two years.

Kadriari, a member of the German federal government's new crown epidemic expert committee, warned on the same day that Germany has entered the sixth wave of the epidemic.

Germany will implement the second phase of "unblocking" from the 4th of this month. At present, people can enter restaurants and hotels without being fully vaccinated against the new crown, and entertainment venues such as nightclubs and clubs have also restarted.

The German disease control agency Robert Koch Institute announced on the 10th that the number of new diagnoses and the number of new deaths were 262,752 and 259, respectively.

As of that day, a total of 16,504,822 people were diagnosed and 125,023 died in Germany; the total number of patients requiring intensive care in the ICU decreased by 2 to 2,115 that day.

Up to now, the country has received a total of 170.8 million doses of the new crown vaccine, and 62.9 million people have been fully vaccinated, accounting for about 75.7% of the country's total population; the number of people who have received booster shots has reached 47.9 million, accounting for 57.6% of the total population.

Germany's official new crown incidence rate index (an average of seven-day cumulative new diagnoses per 100,000 people) has rebounded for several consecutive days since the beginning of this month, and has rebounded to 1388.5 as of the 10th.

Kadrari is a professor of bioinformatics at the University of Greifswald in Germany and a member of the German Federal Government's Expert Committee on the New Crown Epidemic.

He made the aforementioned remarks in an interview with Deutsche Presse Press that day.

In response to the reasons for making the above judgment, Kadrari said that from the current situation, the latest subtype BA.2 of the Omicron mutant strain is more infectious than the original Omicron mutant strain. In addition, Germany's recent "unblocking" measures have eased epidemic prevention efforts. The superposition of the two factors has led to the current increase in the number of newly diagnosed cases.

German Federal Health Minister Lauterbach recently reminded that it is necessary to continue to maintain protective measures after the implementation of the third phase of "unblocking" on the 20th, "we must take into account the possibility of a new wave of epidemics in the summer."

In this regard, Kadrari said that even the current second phase of "unblocking" measures may have caused the number of new diagnoses and incidence rates in Germany to rise sharply again, and this trend is likely to continue into summer.
