• Castilla y León The PP cedes the Presidency of the Cortes to Vox to guarantee the governability of Mañueco

  • Politics The PSOE accuses Feijóo of allowing Castilla y León to be "the first region in Europe governed by the extreme right"

"Probably", Alfonso Fernández Mañueco "would have preferred another option, but there were no options", because "in a stubborn way, the PSOE gave a choice between a pact with Vox and early elections".

This is how the president of the

Xunta

and future leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has summed up his opinion on the government pact in Castilla y León, the first that the

sign with the formation led by Santiago Abascal.

For Feijóo, the culprit is the PSOE and the PP has been "responsible" by prioritizing the agreement over electoral repetition.

"Mañueco proposed something as democratic as letting the most voted list govern. The PSOE's response was superb: it did not even sit down to negotiate. The PSOE only left one possibility: to choose between the most voted list or Vox", the leader has wielded in a press conference at the Xunta.

"In this context, Mañueco has just avoided an early election in Castilla y León, at a time of international and national crisis. It is perfectly legitimate on his part," he added.

Feijóo has wanted to disassociate himself from this agreement and is not concerned as leader 'in pectore' of the PP.

"As soon as I am president of the PP, I will give all the explanations of the decisions that my party adopts; as a candidate, I respect Mañueco's decision, within the scope of his strict responsibility", he affirmed, after ironizing that he is "used to it" to being asked for responsibilities that are typical of positions that he does not yet hold.

And he has emphasized that it was the National Executive Committee of the PP that gave Mañueco a free hand, but the truth is that Pablo Casado's PP categorically refused an agreement with Vox and now, with Feijóo on the horizon, the acting president of Castilla y León has not had any impediment.

For Feijóo, "the PSOE has lost the legitimacy to offer an alternative pact" in Castilla y León" because "it has constantly denied it" and because "it tries to hold others responsible who do exercise their responsibility."

In his argument, Feijóo ignores the agreement of his party and emphasizes those of the socialists: "The one who asks for responsibility in the government pacts is the one who governs with the Spanish populist extreme left and relies on the Basque independence movement and Catalan; legitimacy to ask for responsibility in pacts the PSOE has none".

The Galician president has spoken with Mañueco several times in recent days, and the latter told him that he did not value repeating the elections and that his "first and priority" intention was for the PSOE to facilitate governability.
