The people's choice in the 20th presidential election was the People's Power candidate Yoon Seok-yeol.



After a close battle, Yoon Seok-yeol secured 16.39 million votes, beating Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, who got 16.15 million votes, by 240,000 votes.



The final vote rate was 48.56%, which was only 0.73 percentage points, the smallest gap in constitutional history.



Justice Party candidate Shim Sang-jung came in third with 2.37 percent of the vote.



Yoon-elect, a former Prosecutor General of the current government, won the presidency with the public's desire for a regime change as the first opposition party presidential candidate after one year of resignation as the prosecutor general and eight months after declaring political participation.



President-elect Yoon stayed at his home until the last minute of the counting process, and after 4 a.m., when his election was certain, he visited the ballot counting room and declared victory.
