It was a really long night.

Candidates and viewers must have been drowsy all night watching the results.

The close combat situation within 1 percentage point continued all night.

However, the results were still there.

Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, the power of the people, was elected as the 20th president of the Republic of Korea.

After a close match with Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, Yun won by less than 1 percentage point.

Although he was a freshman in politics, he caused a stir with the public's desire for regime change as a stepping stone.

First news, reporter Eom Min-jae reports.

People's Strength candidate Yoon Seok-yeol defeated Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung in an overnight ballot count and was elected as the 20th president.

With 98.5% of the vote counting in progress, Yun received 48.6% of the vote, beating second-placed Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung by 0.8 percentage points.

The gap with this candidate is tentatively counted at about 270,000 votes.

Yoon-eun, a former prosecutor general of the current government, won his first presidential run just nine months after his entry into politics.

President-elect Yoon stayed at his home until the last minute of the counting process, and after the news of his election was certain, he visited the People's Power Counting Room and declared victory.

[Yoon Seok-yeol/President-elect: It seems to have been a hot, very passionate race.

I felt and learned a lot through this process, and I think it is a victory for the great people.]

Yoon-elect will receive a certificate of election from the National Election Commission within today as soon as the result of the counting is finalized.

The inauguration of the president is on May 10, and before the inauguration, the Presidential Transition Committee will be formed to draw a sketch for the next five years and to materialize the national goals.

After being elected as a candidate for the People's Power presidential election in November last year, Yoon-elect, who has been running for more than four months, won the presidency with aspirations for regime change.

The task of national unity and cooperation lies in front of President-elect Yoon in a political situation where the opposition party has over 170 seats.
