The ruling United Russia party announced that a government committee supported its proposal to nationalize foreign-owned factories that had suspended their operations due to the war on Ukraine, while the White House promised to take steps if the assets of American companies in Russia were confiscated.

In a statement posted on social networking sites this evening, Wednesday, the United Russia party said that the committee in charge of legislation approved the proposal it presented today.

And the Secretary-General of the ruling party Andrei Turchak issued a statement today, saying that stopping these companies from their work is a declaration of war on Russia, stressing that his country will take "strict retaliatory measures", in line with the laws of war, as he put it.

Torchak added that the suspension of foreign companies' business in Russia was a "very violent measure" against Russian citizens, noting that Moscow would not tolerate being "stabbed in the back."

The bill allows the external administration to prevent bankruptcy and preserve jobs to control companies in which foreigners from "unfriendly countries" own more than 25%.

On the other hand, the White House said, "We welcome the suspension of American companies' business in Russia, and we will likely take steps in the event of their assets being confiscated."

Several foreign companies - including Ford, Nike, McDonald's, Starbucks, Coca-Cola and Pepsi - have announced Temporarily closing its stores and factories in Russia, in order to pressure the Kremlin to stop the military campaign against Ukraine, and due to the disruption of its supply chains.
