The police arrested Monday evening in Anglet (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) a 47-year-old man suspected of being the author of a cell phone theft.

He was taken into custody.

The police were called by the owner of the smartphone, who said he caught the suspect stealing personal effects from his van.

Escape thwarted

The forties then tried to flee on a scooter, reports France Bleu Pays Basque.

He had put his loot in his top box but the owner of the phone stole his keys, preventing him from starting his two-wheeler.

Once there, the police from Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) were helped by the victim of the theft.

The man called his own phone number, ringing the device that was in the suspect's top box and indicating his location.

In the trunk, officials also found the victim's glasses and checkbook.
