The institution at Ersboda in Umeå is a closed institution in security class 2. A couple of days ago, a large find was made of weapons that are suspected to have been manufactured in the workshop inside the institution.

In the workshop, the staff found about twenty sharp knives, awls, mortars and shields.

Drawings were in front

The drawings for the knives and stabbing weapons were still on the table when the find was made inside the workshop where the inmates work to make, among other things, steel shoe scrapers.

- Yes, someone has not done their job and handled the monitoring properly, says Lars Lindström.

Taken out of service

The head of the Prison and Probation Service, Diana Wikberg, says that it is inconceivable how the manufacture of the weapons could have taken place inside the institution's workshop.

- It is forbidden and we are very confused and above all we think about the safety of the staff.

This could have ended really badly if the knives had been used against the prison guards, she says.

An investigation is now underway and the prison guards who served inside the workshop have been taken out of service.
