The owners of a farm located in Saint-Aubin-en-Bray (Oise) were ordered on Tuesday to pay €97,100 in damages to the nine residents who for ten years have been denouncing olfactory and noise pollution linked to their operation.
According to
Le Parisien
, the first civil chamber of the Court of Appeal of Amiens (Somme) confirmed the judgment of first instance by considering as characterized the abnormal neighborhood disturbances.
The judges have indeed estimated that two hangars of 2,800 m2 in total, very close to homes, are responsible since their creation in 2010 for "sound and olfactory pollution" or "insect infestation".
Planned demolition
Contacted by our colleagues, the disappointed owner evokes "the end of the family business"
.
If no solution is found within three months, the demolition of the sheds housing the 260 cattle on the farm could be ordered by the courts.
The owners will also have to pay €7,500 as part of the procedure, bringing the total to be paid to more than €100,000.
A colossal sum for these farmers, who fear that this decision will set a precedent and cause harm to other farmers.
