According to Örebro City Mission, the gate is visited every week by at least 200 people who for various reasons live in homelessness.

The goal of the business is to offer a fixed point and the opportunity to change the life situation of the guests.

- We know that many of our guests would like to be here instead of having to sit in the city and stay, says Fredrik Karlsson, director of Örebro City Mission.

Open on Saturdays

Now the property owners, Örebro municipality and Örebro Stadsmission have signed a cooperation agreement to be able to keep the day activities Porten open during the weekend, on Saturdays between 9-12.

- We are happy that both the municipality and the property owners are joining and now help us to increase opening hours and commitment in the city.

"Think we can do even more"

The property owners contribute SEK 80,000 and the municipality contributes SEK 700,000.

The municipality's grant must also cover costs for outreach activities.

- We feel good support from the municipality when it comes to our work to reduce homelessness in Örebro.

But we have a dialogue and believe that we can do even more, says Karlsson.
