Officials and international participants in the "Breaking Prejudice" forum, organized by the Women's Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, affirmed that the success of the process of empowering women in the UAE comes within the framework of adopting an active agenda and taking the initiative, noting the achievements made by the UAE to involve women in comprehensive development process.

The participants in the forum, which was held yesterday on the occasion of International Women's Day, called to stand against discrimination based on sex and work together for a more equal world.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of the Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, expressed her pride in the fact that "Expo Dubai" has been honored with the European and international accreditation for gender equality for organizing events in appreciation of diversity, thanks to the efforts made by the international exhibition to support and stimulate equality. Al Hashemi said that the UAE's stated and firm position is that our common mission for human progress can only be achieved through the full and equal participation of women in every aspect of society.

According to the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, Natalia Kanem, gender discrimination also prevents women and girls from pursuing influential careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and high-level leadership roles.

She referred to the active participation of women in the "Expo Dubai", adding: "It is always a pleasure to see women leaders in the UAE."

She stated that there is an urgent need to implement measures to combat sexism and hate speech, along with a comprehensive societal approach through action, and strong multilateral partnerships, pointing out that women's leadership is critical, not only in government, but also in the private sector.

Kanem explained that for businesses to succeed, we need to see women fully represented across the private sector, as CEOs, as entrepreneurs on boards of directors, and across business levels, and that work lies within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Women's Empowerment Walk

The diplomatic advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, stressed that the success of the process of empowering women in the UAE is thanks to the leadership's support, pointing out that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, laid the foundations for this process.

He expressed his appreciation for all that Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, offered to support and develop the process of empowering women and developing their position in society.
