An American man who received the world's first genetically engineered pig heart transplant died about two months after the transplant.

This was announced on the 9th by a research team at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the United States.

According to the university, the man was hospitalized for arrhythmia, but his symptoms were so severe that he was not eligible for a normal heart transplant and could not be recovered by other treatments, so this was the first time in the world in January. I received a porcine heart transplant that made it difficult for rejection to occur due to genetic manipulation.

The transplanted heart worked well for the next few weeks, showing no signs of rejection, but the man recently became ill and died on the 8th.

The man was 57 years old.

The research team that performed the transplant will investigate in detail the cause of the death of the man in the future.

The technology for transplanting genetically engineered animal organs into humans is expected to lead to the securing of organs for transplantation in the future, and research is progressing in each country.

The research team says, "We have gained valuable insights into the functioning of the pig's heart in the human body in a immunosuppressed state. We thank the men for their contributions."
