Vaccination centers specifically dedicated to Covid-19 are "not intended to last" after the end of March, if the epidemic wave continues to ebb in France, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

With the approach of the end of the obligation of the vaccination pass, the vaccination campaign experienced "a fairly marked slowdown" last week with 309,000 injections, a trend which should "continue", according to the ministry.

Reduction of “active” vaccination centers

The number of "active" vaccination centers, which carry out more than 100 weekly anti-Covid injections, has already fallen to 400, compared to 700 the previous week, the same source said during a press briefing. .

“During March, we want to maintain a minimum base of centers, with two challenges, pediatric vaccination and vaccination with Novavax”, explained the ministry, which asked the Regional Health Agencies (ARS) to work in this direction.

And “from the end of March, when the Novavax vaccine will be available in pharmacies, (…) the centers as we have known them will not be intended to last if the epidemic dynamic continues to decline”, we added.

Still unvaccinated in France

The idea is that "the territorial network will be based above all on vaccination in the city", according to the Ministry of Health.

And “a certain number of permanent vaccination centers” will be able to complete the system if necessary.

“But if there is a strong epidemic recovery which requires revaccination, we are ready to rearm the centers very quickly and very strongly”, assured the ministry, while the contaminations have given signs of recovery in recent days.

There are still 4.1 million people aged 12 and over who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 in France.
