Iraq announced that it seeks to open new air corridors with Kuwait through holding several regular meetings between the two sides at the request of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Nizar Ibrahim Al-Ziyadi, Director General of the General Company for Air Navigation Services of the Iraqi Ministry of Transport, said - in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) - that "the company's air traffic management officials held a series of meetings with the Kuwaiti and Bahraini sides, in implementation of the recommendations and a request from the World Civil Aviation Organization. to the Middle East "ICAO", to discuss opening new corridors with the State of Kuwait.

Al-Ziyadi added that "the meetings were held with the aim of promoting the increase in the number of planes transiting between the three countries in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which Qatar will host from November 21 to December 18."

In turn, Haider Dhafer Al-Adari, the official of the area unit in the Air Traffic Management Department, stated that "two consecutive meetings were held, headed by the representative of ICAO for the Middle East, with the Iraqi side, the Kuwaiti side and the Bahraini side, followed by a third critical meeting next Thursday based on the ICAO request," according to the statement.

Al-Adari added that the goal will be to exchange ideas and opinions and present proposals, in addition to raising obstacles that need to achieve technical requirements, and finding ways to open new air corridors between Iraq and Kuwait, especially after the decision of the US Federal Aviation Organization (FAA) to reduce restrictions on The use of Iraqi airspace to a height of less than 32,000 feet, and the great demand from international airlines to use it as one of the shortest routes between east and west.
