• Announced for several days, the LREM meeting in Marseille will take place this Saturday, but without Emmanuel Macron.

  • Local activists are indeed trying to campaign despite the absence of the president-candidate, monopolized by the war in Ukraine.

  • Not all of his supporters are thrilled with this meeting, which is not one in the absence of Emmanuel Macron.

Others are delighted with this gathering “to federate”.

It will look like a meeting, with its crowd, its flags, and these elected officials who go up on the stage to be well in the frame at the end, when singing

La Marseillaise.

It will have the sound of a meeting, with its applause and its lyrical flights on the famous projeeeeeet.

But it will not be a meeting of Emmanuel Macron.

This Saturday, the president-candidate will not finally make the trip to Marseille, as announced for several days, to hold what was to be his first campaign meeting.

The reason?

The war in Ukraine, which fills the Head of State's agenda, to the point of leaving him very little time to campaign "The meetings are good for uniting support, but quite frankly, with the Ukraine, we must adapt the format to the current situation and show restraint, ”says LREM deputy for the northern districts, Alexandra Louis.

“We needed a collective thing”

"I was even fiercely opposed to there being a meeting," says Bruno Gilles, head of Horizons in Marseille.

It would have been bullshit.

I advised them to do a big meeting before the first lap, and depending on the results one during the in-between lap.

Because there, clearly, the traditional campaign, we are not there.

»

“How to campaign with someone who is not available, wonders Sabrina Roubache-Agresti, president of the Marseille committee for the re-election of Emmanuel Macron.

I said to myself that even if things don't happen in the classic way, we needed something collective and an exchange between people.

Sabrina Roubache-Agresti therefore called for a “gathering” of all local activists, this Saturday at 5 p.m. in Marseille.

A video message

"If we had the choice, we would have been happy for the candidate to be there, recognizes Jean-Pierre Serrus, LREM mayor of La Roque d'Anthéron, a small village in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

But during a meeting on Monday with his supporters and sponsors, the President of the Republic asked us to be ambassadors for the candidate, given the events.

This Saturday, the idea is to bring together all the presidents of Emmanuel Macron's re-election committee, elected officials, sponsors, activists from Horizons, Agir... There will be speeches and the preparation of a banner.

This is an opportunity for us all to come together.

That's the point of meetings.

»

And to concede: “Well, there, it is not a meeting but we act like a meeting.

And it is expected that the candidate delivers a video message.

“” It is important this Saturday to meet, to unite us and that we all discuss together, believes Alexandra Louis.

This creates cohesion between the relays of the campaign, and this is what makes an electoral campaign work.

Finally, the opportunity to display the new cascading rallies from the local right.

Show of force at the Pharo

An idea that does not convince all LREM activists in Bouches-du-Rhône.

“It is still an individual initiative of Madame Roubache and we are warned afterwards, plague the Aixoise deputy LREM Anne-Laurence Petel.

I still have a big problem with that.

We, with the militants, we have school outings planned all this week.

We are going to be at a market on Saturday morning and we are going to organize a picnic afterwards.

There are actions from everywhere that are organized.

So we're going to stick to what we had planned.

We're not going to this rally.

The President of the Republic would have come for a meeting, no problem, we would have come.

But there, we are in a phase of meeting with people, of going into contact to convince both on the program and on the results.

It seems more important to me than making a show of force.

So no, we're not going to the Pharo.

It is indeed in this public garden which dominates the port that this gathering is for the moment envisaged, with the possible presence of ministers.

A garden where the President of the Republic had rolled out his plan for Marseille last September.

"This Saturday is an opportunity to remind the Marseillais from the Pharo of all the commitments that the president had made there," said Marseille MP LREM Claire Pitollat.

Last September, after taking out the checkbook, Emmanuel Macron made a final promise, which he obviously will not keep: that of returning to Marseille to see the effects of his policy… in the spring, a few weeks before the first round.
