More than two million people have already fled the country, according to UN estimates, but even more may be forced to flee and Filippo Grandi, head of the UN refugee agency UNHCR, fears a second wave of more vulnerable refugees from the country.

- If the war continues, we will start to see people who lack both resources and contacts, he says at a press conference, according to the news agency Reuters.

According to him, this will lead to a more complex situation for European countries to deal with.

- Everyone in Europe, and beyond the continent, will need to show even more solidarity, he says.

Unicef: Children in Ukraine need peace

Hundreds of thousands of people fleeing Ukraine are children.

Catherine Russell, Secretary-General of Unicef, says the organization has been working on both sides of the Eastern Ukraine line for the past eight years.

Now they are determined to provide humanitarian aid and protection to all children in need, both in Ukraine and in neighboring countries.

- This brutality must end.

Children in Ukraine need help and protection.

They need supplies and other critical support.

They need access to basic social services such as health and education.

They need hope for the future, she says.

- But above all, children in Ukraine need peace, it is the only sustainable solution.
