A year after a fatal accident at the Persan-Beaumont aerodrome, in Bernes-sur-Oise (Val-d'Oise), the members of the Accident Investigation Bureau (BEA) have issued their conclusions.

The pilot of a paramotor, who died in a crash on March 8, 2021, was reportedly dizzy before losing control of his device, reports

Le

Parisien on Tuesday.

Holder of a pilot's license and owner of his own paramotor, the 58-year-old victim was flying over the aerodrome when the machine had lost altitude.

The BEA's investigation ruled out several leads: the weather conditions were good, the engine showed no anomalies and the paramotor was not damaged.

Paroxysmal positional vertigo

The 50-year-old had suffered for several months from paroxysmal positional vertigo, causing "false sensations of movement or dizziness".

The pilot would therefore have tensed on the brake control, causing the machine to lose altitude.

"Paroxysmal positional vertigo is extremely dangerous from an aeronautical point of view", assures the BEA, according to our colleagues.
