Children in Värnamo were taken abroad - the social services did not respond to alarms

Värnamo municipality reports the incident itself according to lex Sarah, due to shortcomings in how they have handled the information received.

The woman contacted the social services in Värnamo in December last year with a concern that her husband could abduct their children.

Only after three days did the information come to the department for violence in close relation on the social services.

Then they contact the woman and decide on a date a few more days later.

But according to the report, her husband had already had time to take the children abroad when the meeting was to take place.

The woman states that she blocked the children's passports, but that it was already too late.

The municipality writes that it is difficult to assess whether the social services could prevent the abduction if they have become aware of it before, but that the assessment is made that it should be seen as a serious misconduct.

Ivo will investigate the incident

Several measures have now been taken to avoid similar shortcomings being committed again, including discussing shortcomings in the handling of the mail basket and talks with the contact center about contacting the department for violence in a close relationship at the slightest suspicion.

The Health and Care Inspectorate shall examine the incident.
