Since Monday, the "My Security" application, intended to facilitate contact between the police and citizens, can be downloaded free of charge on all smartphones and tablets.

It will make it possible to contact a gendarme or a police officer in one click, to report an urgent situation.

Have "in your pocket" a police officer or a gendarme "reachable 24 hours a day": the Ministry of the Interior launched the "My Security" application on Monday, intended to facilitate contact between the police and citizens, in particular in case of emergency.

Announced in early January in Nice by President Emmanuel Macron, the application can now be downloaded for free on all smartphones and tablets, Minister Gérald Darmanin said during a presentation to the press.

Alert law enforcement in one click

It allows "citizens to have a gendarme or a policeman available in their pocket, who can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week", summarized a gendarmerie officer.

In particular, users will be able to make an emergency call in one click, "chat" directly with a police officer or a gendarme at any time, file a pre-complaint online or obtain advice on the steps to follow in the event of violence, theft, threats or scams.

From 2023, the application will offer the online complaint for damage to property.

"You are a lady in the metro, you are bothered by a man... you don't have to call 17 or wait to go home" to alert the police "without your aggressor realizes it", listed the minister.

By indicating his department of residence, the user will be able to consult on an interactive map the location of the nearest police stations and gendarmerie brigades, as well as their contact details and opening hours.

Targeted notifications can also be sent, such as the report of a road accident or information for the prevention of burglaries.
