London A semi-detached house where there is now a Cantonese restaurant: the history of the place where Queen Elizabeth II was born
Opinion The week of Jaime Peñafiel: the queen, for the first time, feels exhausted
Queen Elizabeth has made an important decision about her future.
As
institutional sources have reported,
the monarch wants
Windsor
Castle to be, de jure,
her official residence.
A decision that has not been a surprise in any case, but that is the
verification of a reality
that has become evident in recent months.
Since the pandemic broke out, the sovereign and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, decided to leave Buckingham Palace and settle in
Windsor
, where they were cared for by a small group of staff.
Despite the improvement in the situation, the monarch
did not want to abandon her retirement
from it in the area, moreover, on April 9, the Duke of Edinburgh died there at the age of 99 after a time admitted to a London hospital .
In fact, his funeral was held on the premises and he is buried under the royal vault of St. George's Chapel.

Queen Elizabeth's decision is far from random.
Windsor is a place that
has always been present in her life,
much more than Buckingham Palace.
While
still a princess,
the monarch spent time in the castle with her sister, Princess Margaret, and therefore it is a place full of
memories
for her.
To this we must add that her husband is buried there, so it is logical that she wants to be close to her.
Although in recent months the queen's agenda has been modified to adapt it to the new reality and its limitations, from now on some more changes will be made.
It is likely
that her face-to-face activity will be limited to the maximum
and telematic meetings will be chosen, always taking into account her evolution.
We must not forget that, despite the fact that the monarch is very committed to the institution, she is still
95 years old
and that is a clear brake on her commitments.
In the same way, it is probable that she can visit Buckingham on an occasional basis, but she does not intend to sleep there anymore.

At the moment no further changes are planned in regards to the royal residences.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles are expected to continue to reside at
Clarence House
, a few meters from Buckingham Palace, while the
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge
will reside at Kensington Palace.
However, the monarch has both the Earls of Wessex and Prince Andrew close to her, as the Duke of York and the marriage of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys Jones have their residences in the vicinity of Windsor Castle.
What is known is that Buckingham Palace is
in the midst of a major renovation,
the cost of which exceeds 400 million pounds and which aims to update the facilities of the complex, with changes in
wiring, pipes
and others.
Although for now Prince Charles remains in Clarence House, it is known that
his wish is to move to Buckingham
when he is king, since for him, the palace is the visible symbol of the Crown in the nation's capital.
