His death was confirmed to AFP on Monday by the Outremers360 media, of which he was the founding president.

The death of Luc Laventure, of Martinican origin, provoked many tributes in the Overseas Territories on all continents, Antilles, Réunion or Polynesia.

"Throughout his career he never stopped promoting the overseas territories and fought tirelessly so that these spaces were not forgotten in the processing of information", reacted Monday morning the Minister of Overseas, Sébastien Lecornu, in a press release, saluting the memory of a "faithful friend".

Luc Laventure has spent most of his career in public broadcasting, within the RFO network, renamed Réseau Outre-Mer Première then La Première in 2018, and made up of 9 TV channels and radio stations.

He was director of the antennas of France Ô - of which he was one of the creators and which disappeared in 2020 - and Outre-Mer Première from 1998 to 2011. He notably directed on July 14, 2010 the passage of France Ô on national DTT and the launch of the nine Outre-Mer Première on 29 November 2010.

From Sunday evening and the announcement of the death, politicians and personalities saluted the memory of this figure of overseas journalism.

"Affective thoughts to the family of Luc Laventure. What an outing! 4 months ago, tireless and creative, he was still heating projects", reacted on Twitter Christiane Taubira, ex-Keeper of the Seals and ex-presidential candidate, from Guyana.

"He was the affirmation of our presence in the French audiovisual sector (...) His disappearance marks the end of an era. A chapter is closing," said journalist Claudy Siar, from Guadeloupe, also on Twitter. .

"Luc Laventure was a brilliant, passionate man, endowed with a contagious joie de vivre (...) If he is no longer where he was, he is now everywhere where we are", tweeted Serge Letchimy, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique.
