Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil was hit in the head with a blunt weapon wielded by a man in his 70s during a campaign near Sinchon Station in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 7th, and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

CEO Song Young-gil headed to Sinchon Station today to tour universities in Seoul during the day.

As CEO Song greeted the citizens and moved toward the party, a man in his 70s, Mr. A, rushed in from behind.

At the time, Mr. A was dressed in his hanbok and black bungee, and swung a hammer wrapped in black vinyl towards Song's head.

After his head was struck, CEO Song was rushed to Severance Hospital, where he underwent suture surgery.

Kim Young-jin, secretary-general of the Democratic Party, said, "As a result of the CT scan, the outer layer of the skull was injured and showing symptoms of a concussion."

However, according to the doctor's opinion that he needs stability, he has canceled all his campaign plans for the day and is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Regarding today's incident, Chairman Song said, "Even if they have different views, there is no violence. I hope that the (election) becomes a place of national unity rather than hate and hostility," said Secretary-General Kim.

Immediately after CEO Song was attacked, the assailant A was subdued by officials of the previous line.

It is said that A was filming on YouTube while holding a selfie stick at the time.

The Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul arrested Mr. A on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act (obstructing the election campaign) and special injuries, and is investigating the motive for the crime.
