Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the UK: Advise relevant British politicians not to "play with fire" on the Taiwan issue

The spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in the UK expressed firm opposition to and strongly condemned the erroneous remarks made by members of the House of Lords of the UK on Taiwan, and advised relevant British politicians not to "play with fire" on the Taiwan issue.

The spokesman said that the comparison of the Taiwan issue with the Ukraine issue by some British politicians shows their extreme ignorance of history and reality, and also exposes their arrogance and sinister plot to undermine China's reunification.

China firmly opposes and strongly condemns this.

The spokesperson pointed out that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.

The one-China principle is the universal consensus of the international community and the universally recognized norm of international relations. It is also an important prerequisite and political foundation for China to establish and develop diplomatic relations with countries around the world, including the United Kingdom.

The Taiwan issue is purely China's internal affairs, bearing on China's core interests, and no outside interference is allowed.

No one should underestimate the strong determination, firm will and strong ability of the Chinese people to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The spokesperson solemnly warned that we urge relevant British politicians not to "play with fire" on the Taiwan issue, stop anti-China political manipulation, and stop interfering in China's internal affairs.

We also urge the British government to abide by the one-China principle, not to send any wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and to handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and properly.
