DECRYPTION

The Paris Agricultural Show closes its doors tonight.

The war in Ukraine was at the heart of the debates all this week.

This 58th edition was however to be placed under the sign of reunion after a blank year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But the Russian invasion upset the program.

Macron's express visit

“What we are going through will not be without consequences for the agricultural world”: on the first day of the show, Emmanuel Macron set the tone.

The president also had to shorten the inauguration of the event.

His visit will have been express, barely an hour and a half against twelve hours during the previous edition.

A European shield to defend farmers

Several presidential candidates have also had to shorten their wanderings in the aisles of the show.

So much for the imposed exercise.

And Ukraine was on everyone's lips.

Valérie Pécresse notably called for the establishment of a European shield to protect farmers.

Marine Le Pen, she called for the return of whatever it costs, to which the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire responded with the promise of massive support for the agricultural sector.

The theme of "sovereignty" imposed itself

And, in the background of this show, between pandemic, inflation and geopolitical tensions, a theme: sovereignty.

Emmanuel Macron said the word eleven times during his opening speech.

A theme taken up abundantly by the cereal sector, while the prices of wheat and corn have not ceased to soar since the start of the war in Ukraine.
