Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner wants to provide around 200 billion euros for the climate-friendly conversion of the country by 2026 in the medium-term financial plan.

These should be used, for example, for electric charging stations, hydrogen production or the dampening of electricity prices by abolishing the surcharge for renewable energies, said the FDP leader on Sunday on ARD.

He is therefore now waiting for proposals to speed up planning or reduce bureaucracy so that these funds can be used sensibly.

However, the FDP politician rejected additional demands for agreement on a large program worth billions for Germany's military security.

When asked to compensate for the planned 100 billion special fund in other areas, Lindner said: "That's not the agreement.

It wouldn't be realistic.

And that will not come.”

The special fund for the upgrading of the Bundeswehr will be created due to the changed security situation and anchored in the Basic Law alongside the debt brake, said Lindner.

That describes the "exceptional character".

It was agreed in the coalition that "additional funds for the Bundeswehr in the regular budget" would be accompanied by a strengthening of development cooperation, humanitarian aid and networked security beyond the military.

More independent energy supply

In the political talk on Bild TV, Lindner said he wanted to present his draft law for the creation of the special fund by the middle of the week.

On ARD, he emphasized the goal of becoming more independent in terms of energy supply.

However, a short report published this Sunday by the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW) showed that the relief package put together by the traffic light coalition will not compensate for the losses suffered by citizens this year due to the high energy prices.

The annual total volume of an estimated twelve billion euros is put into perspective in view of the current price increase.

"The relief will only be able to partially compensate for the loss of purchasing power of the citizens." In view of the exploding prices for gas, electricity, oil and fuel, the leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP decided on several relief steps last week.

In the tax return, the basic allowance, flat-rate income tax allowance and, limited to 2026, the commuter flat-rate for long-distance commuters are to be increased retroactively to the beginning of the year.

The EEG surcharge for green electricity will be removed from the electricity bill in July and financed through the federal budget.

There should also be an immediate bonus for children affected by poverty.

The Federal Minister of Finance spoke out in favor of further sanctions as a reaction to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

"It is particularly important to me to meet the oligarchs," said Lindner.

"Anyone who profited from Putin and stole the wealth of the Russian people through corruption cannot enjoy their prosperity in our western democracies."
