This morning, the Israeli police shot and killed a Palestinian youth who tried to stab policemen in the center of occupied East Jerusalem, killing him.

The 19-year-old Palestinian attacker from occupied East Jerusalem wounded a policeman with a knife, before shooting him.

The police said in a statement that after 04:30 this morning, the young man approached the policemen stationed at Bab Hatta (one of the doors leading to the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque) in the Old City of Jerusalem, took out a knife and stabbed one of them.

It indicated that two policemen were slightly injured, one of whom was stabbed, and the other while the police opened fire, while a photo distributed by the police showed a knife on the ground next to a blood stain.

The statement added that the police returned fire, and medical services arrived at the scene and confirmed the death of the young man.

Palestinian journalists and activists in Jerusalem circulated a video clip of the stabbing attacker lying on the ground near Bab Hutta and Al Asbat.

According to eyewitnesses, a large force of the Israeli police was called to the scene, and the nearby doors leading to Al-Aqsa Mosque were closed.
